Abstract
Higher education is a permanent process that enables the development of the potentialities of the human being in an integral manner, it is carried out after secondary education and aims at the full development of students and their professional academic training, however, this process is interrupted for many reasons that have been reasons of interest to investigate. This study analyzed the behavior of the demanders of higher education and the different factors that influence the demand for public sector services in the city of Sincelejo and its impact on the daily life of the demanders of this service, in addition to characterizing the potential and actual users through surveys and study of the population with respect to their socioeconomic situation, tastes and preferences. The research is of a descriptive-exploratory type, the object of study is characterized through an analysis of the sector demanding education and its environment in general. The population are the students of the public higher education institutions of the city of Sincelejo, considering a random sample of 300 students, selected among the four educational institutions of study. From the surveys conducted, it was observed that some of the causes for the declining demand for this service are poverty or lack of income, lack of motivation, parents' unemployment, the distance between the place of residence and the place of study; bringing with it even stronger consequences that are more difficult for the government to change, such as informal employment, the use of minors to work, drug addiction, vandalism and prostitution.
