Abstract

The aim of the paper was to classify factors that affect the cancellation of scheduled surgeries. The article was typified as mixed with a cross-sectional, non-experimental, correlational and descriptive design. For analysis and data collection, a systematic review of studies was carried out on the most common motives for the cancellation of scheduled surgeries in hospitals. Then the MICMAC technique was used, for which the support of professionals was requested who, as a collective reflection, contributed to the identification of the relationships between factors to be able to perform a structural analysis. The results yielded three factors that were classified indirectly as key, three determinants, two autonomous and one as a result. The indirect classification showed a displacement of the factors in the plane, with respect to the direct classification. This displacement is relevant since factors classified as determinants were key and this can only be appreciated with the indirect relationships that the MICMAC technique allows to identify.
