Abstract

Managerial leadership is a key determinant of financial performance in small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), particularly in regional contexts characterized by structural constraints and economic uncertainty. This study examines the relationship between leadership styles (transformational, transactional, and laissez-faire) and their impact on key financial indicators, including profitability, liquidity, and business growth, in SMEs located in Florencia, Colombia.
A mixed-methods approach with a correlational-explanatory design was employed. The sample consisted of 150 managers from the commerce, service, and agro-industrial sectors, selected through stratified sampling. Data were collected using the Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire (MLQ) and organizational financial indicators, and analyzed using descriptive statistics and multiple linear regression models.  Findings reveal that transformational leadership has a positive and significant effect on profitability (β = 0.64; p < 0.01) and growth (β = 0.69; p < 0.01), while transactional leadership shows a moderate effect on liquidity (β = 0.51; p < 0.05). Laissez-faire leadership was not statistically significant.  The study concludes that transformational leadership enhances sustainable financial performance, positioning it as a strategic factor for SME competitiveness in emerging contexts.
