Strategic direction and organizational sustainability in social organizations in emerging contexts: a case study in Florencia, Caquetá
Strategic direction is a key component of sustainability in nonprofit organizations, particularly in emerging contexts characterized by institutional constraints and high uncertainty. This study aims to analyze the internal and external factors that influence the sustainability of Fundación Pequeñas Huellas Juveniles, located in Florencia, Caquetá, and to formulate strategic direction guidelines for the 2024–2029 period. A qualitative case study with a descriptive-propositional scope was conducted. Data were collected through document review, semi-structured interviews, and non-participant observation, and were analyzed using content analysis techniques and source triangulation. The results show that organizational sustainability does not depend exclusively on the availability of resources, but rather on the organization’s ability to articulate internal strengths with environmental opportunities. Structural weaknesses were identified in planning, administrative management, and financial sustainability, as well as strengths associated with social capital and territorial legitimacy. Based on these findings, strategic guidelines are proposed for institutional strengthening, resource diversification, and the expansion of social impact. It is concluded that strategic direction in social organizations should be understood as a contextualized capability rather than as the mechanical application of business models.
