Ethics Statement and Best Editorial Practices of CONOCIMIENTO GLOBAL JOURNAL
Conocimiento Global Journal, based on the COPE Guidelines for Best Practices for Journal Editors and in accordance with the principles of transparency established therein—such as publication ethics practices regarding authorship, article plagiarism, data manipulation, and conflicts of interest—establishes the following editorial ethics statement.
1. Responsibilities of Editors:
The editor and the editorial committee must act fairly, objectively, and without any type of discrimination (sexual, political, religious, or ethnic) in applying the procedures described in this statement.
Likewise, submitted works will be edited and published solely on the basis of their academic merit, without regard to commercial influence or conflicts of interest. Therefore, editors must remain free from any conflict of interest related to authors or funding sources that could bias the acceptance or rejection of a manuscript.
Editorial decisions, regardless of their outcome, shall be based on the reports provided by peer reviewers. All articles, whether or not plagiarism is suspected, will be screened using the Turnitin software employed by the journal.
Members of the editorial committee must not disclose information regarding submitted manuscripts. Communication regarding manuscripts shall be limited exclusively to authors and reviewers. In addition, confidentiality will be guaranteed through a double-blind review process in which authors and reviewers remain anonymous to one another.
When a member of the editorial committee identifies errors in a published article, they must notify the remaining members in order to proceed with the necessary correction or corresponding action. Furthermore, editors must address and resolve complaints or ethical conflicts in accordance with the journal’s editorial policies and the research ethics principles established by the Center for Interdisciplinary Studies and Training.
2. Responsibilities of Authors:
Articles submitted by authors must comply with the technical and editorial criteria established by Revista CONOCIMIENTO GLOBAL and its author guidelines.
Authors must ensure that manuscripts submitted to the journal are original, unpublished, and not simultaneously submitted to another journal or under consideration elsewhere. Likewise, authors may not submit works that have already been published in scientific or non-scientific journals.
Manuscripts must present information objectively, without false or distorted statements, as such conduct constitutes unethical behavior. Articles must also include information regarding funding sources and a declaration of conflicts of interest at the end of the manuscript.
Authors must ensure that their work is entirely original and that any use of third-party material is properly cited. Plagiarism may take many forms, including presenting another author’s work as one’s own, copying or paraphrasing substantial portions of another document without proper attribution, claiming ownership of research results obtained by others, or appropriating publication rights belonging to third parties. Plagiarism in all its forms constitutes unethical conduct and is unacceptable in scientific publishing. If plagiarism is detected, the authors will be informed of the findings and may be asked to make the necessary corrections or face rejection of the manuscript depending on the severity of the misconduct. Results reported in manuscripts must be truthful, as manipulating or fabricating research data constitutes fraudulent practice.
Authors must confirm the transfer of copyright to the journal through a formal agreement. They must also actively participate in the peer review process by responding promptly to reviewers’ or editorial committee requests and carefully reviewing the final version of the article in order to identify possible errors that require correction. If significant errors are discovered after publication, authors must promptly notify the editorial committee and cooperate in publishing an erratum or, when necessary, retracting the article.
3. Responsibilities of Peer Reviewers:
Reviewers must contribute to the evaluation process by providing objective, respectful, constructive, and timely assessments free from personal bias. If reviewers do not consider themselves sufficiently qualified to evaluate a manuscript, they must state so after reading the abstract and before receiving the full article. Likewise, reviewers must disclose any conflict of interest related to the work or its funding sources that could affect their judgment.
Reviewers are responsible for informing authors of relevant references that may have been omitted. Similarly, they must notify the editorial committee of possible cases of duplicate publication or plagiarism not previously detected by the journal.
Reviewers must maintain strict confidentiality regarding all information received from the editorial committee or the authors and use such information appropriately. Nevertheless, reviewers retain the right to accept or decline participation in the evaluation process.
Reviewers commit themselves to complying with ethical standards in research and scientific publication.
4. Procedures in cases of unethical conduct
Editors must take reasonable measures to identify and prevent the publication of works involving unethical conduct or research misconduct. Fabrication and manipulation of data, plagiarism, citation manipulation, falsification of information, and omission of authorship are considered unethical practices.
Reports of unethical behavior must initially be submitted in writing to the journal editor, accompanied by sufficient evidence to justify an investigation. Subsequently, the editor and the editorial committee will be responsible for conducting the investigation.
Minor cases of unethical behavior may be resolved directly with the authors without consulting the editorial committee.
In cases involving serious misconduct, the editor and editorial committee shall:
- Formally notify the authors and reviewers in writing, detailing the misconduct and the available evidence.
- Determine whether institutional employers or affiliated entities should be informed of the unethical conduct.
- Seek advice from external experts if the accusations are not supported by conclusive evidence.
- Provide authors with the opportunity to respond to allegations of serious misconduct.
- Require authors to make corrections, modifications, or, if necessary, retract the article from publication.
5. Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI)- based technologies
The journal recognizes the value of Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based tools in supporting research and scientific production processes. AI is understood as any computational system capable of performing tasks associated with reasoning, learning, analysis, or decision-making similar to those performed by humans.
Authors may use AI tools for purposes such as linguistic revision, translation, information organization, idea generation, or documentary support. However, authors shall bear exclusive responsibility for:
a) Declaring the Use of AI
Authors must explicitly disclose the use of Artificial Intelligence tools in the preparation of the manuscript, indicating the platforms used and the manner in which they were employed.
b) Ensuring Authenticity
Authors must guarantee that AI-generated content is original and does not violate ethical principles or copyright regulations.
c) Verifying Information
Authors must verify the accuracy, relevance, and reliability of all information generated or assisted by AI tools.
The journal will evaluate the appropriate and transparent use of these technologies in each case and reserves the right to reject manuscripts that fail to comply with these provisions.
Additionally, authors are advised to:
d) Review the Policies of the Tools Used
Understand the terms, scope, and limitations of each AI platform before using it.
e) Properly Cite AI Tools
Correctly reference the tools and information sources used whenever applicable.
f) Maintain Authorial Responsibility
Authors must remember that ethical, academic, and scientific responsibility for the content lies exclusively with them, regardless of the use of AI tools.
