Foreign investment and its incidence in the productive development of the Cartagena tourism sector
Cartagena is a city that despite its privileged geographic location and its economic dynamics, changing between the tourist, the commercial and the productive, it presents some indicators of absolute poverty and frightening inequity, which affects and contrasts with the vision of it. Has on the outside. One thing is the Cartagena of the promotional catalogs of international tourism and another is the exclusive Cartagena and on the verge of collapse that we experience every day those who inhabit it.
It is a city where there is no clarity in its vocation to define its productive commitment, there is also a clear divorce between its ruling class and the living forces of the city, which generates inconsistencies in the different development plans recently presented, because they do not point to give structural solutions to the problems of the same one and they end up turned into solutions of conjuncture that with time complicate the situation of the city.
Cartagena cannot continue in the current trend, because the problem of extreme poverty has become a phenomenon in constant growth that has the city at a point of no return, social indicators deteriorate affecting the quality of life of its inhabitants and therefore affecting the perception that the foreign investor has about whether this is the best destination to invest.
Finally, it is necessary to coordinate all the living forces of the city, where politics is articulated with the academy, with industry, commerce and tourism, to structure development plans that respond to the real needs of the city, executing plans, programs and structural strategies that allow us to improve the quality of life of all those who live in it.
In accordance with the foregoing, this article aims to characterize the foreign investment made in the tourism sector of the city of Cartagena, and reveal its impact on the economic, social, political and cultural development of the city, also presenting the management managerial and administrative actions carried out by the business leaders of the city, and the political and governmental strategies that are applied to attract the interest of foreign investors.
