Abstract

Primary immunodeficiency diseases (PIDs) are part of a large group of about 400 disorders with defects or alterations in the functions and/or development of one or more components of the immune system, with a wide variety of clinical presentations and degrees of severity. However, about 80% of cases remain mistaken or undiagnosed, which would lead to the deterioration of the patient's health. A literature review with a documentary approach was carried out with a non-exploratory descriptive design based on meta-analyses and systemic reviews with the aim of synthesizing the importance of several empirical studies through Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses, known as PRISMA. The study highlights the main alterations in the lymphocyte subpopulations of selective IgA deficiency, X-linked agamaglobulinemia and Common Variable Immunodeficiency, which represent the most prevalent primary immunodeficiencies worldwide, by means of flow cytometry. The study of lymphocyte subpopulations by flow cytometry is of great importance, since it allows to analyze the characteristics and functions of B and T cells in order to optimize and improve the diagnosis, treatment and estimate the degree of severity that the patient suffers in order to improve the prognosis and quality of life of the patient.
