Analysis of international tourist flow to bogotá in 2019: application of the economic gravity model

This study examines the relationship between the origin of international tourists visiting Bogotá in 2019 and the GDP of their home countries using the gravity model. Variables such as geographical distance and air frequencies are also considered. The results reveal a significant positive correlation between GDP and tourist flow, indicating that countries with stronger economies tend to send more tourists to Bogotá. It is also identified that distance acts as a natural barrier to tourist flow, while a higher number of direct flights enhances this flow. The conclusions suggest that to boost tourism, Bogotá should focus on improving air connectivity and strengthening economic ties with high-GDP countries.
