Abstract

Environmental Education is conceived as a strategy that allows for improving human attitudes towards nature  (Amézquita et al., 2023), environmental  knowledge and practices (Hungerford etal., 2013). Environmental Education seeks to transmit knowledge and promote values and skills that promote pro-environmental action.  In this context, social networks have acquired increasing importance, becoming a key communication channel for exchanging knowledge, strengthening environmental awareness, and mobilizing audiences globally (Carvalho et al., 2021). This article aims to identify research trends in environmental education through social networks. For this, data

from the Scopus database were used, to be sent for a period between 2012 and 2024. The final sample included 69 articles, which were processed using the VOSviewer software, the R package bibliometrix and the Biblioshiny application. Among the most notable findings, Sustainability magazine is positioned as the main source of publications on this topic, with 11 articles since 2012. The author with the most publications in this area is Wang Y. et al., (2024), who has made multiple contributions to the field. Likewise, the most cited article corresponds to Rahim et al., (2012), with a total of 53 citations. The most co-occurring words include “social media,” “environmental education,” and “sustainability.” Social networks have emerged as an effective and flexible means for environmental education, facilitating access to pedagogical content, promoting social interaction and digital activism, and expanding research and teaching possibilities.
