Abstract

Adolescent pregnancy is a public health problem that has profound implications for the lives of young people and society in general. The objective of the study was to analyze the factors that contribute to the increase in teenage pregnancy and to evaluate its impact on the lives of adolescents. The methodology used was a descriptive narrative-documentary design. The search for information was carried out using scientific search engines and databases such as Google  Scholar, Scielo, Elsevier, PubMed.  The inclusion  criteria  were  articles  published  between 2020 and January 2024. Articles published in English and Spanish. The results obtained were poverty, lack of educational opportunities and low educational level are common factors in most countries such as Chile, Mexico, Colombia and Bolivia. The percentages of adolescent pregnancy vary significantly, from 10-15% in Colombia to 80% in Ecuador. Countries such as Peru and Uruguay present relatively low percentages (15-20% and 13% respectively), which may be related to a stronger focus on family and community support or greater education and access to services. In conclusion, the data show that poverty limits access to educational opportunities and health services, contributing to a higher risk of early pregnancy. Adolescent pregnancy has significant consequences for the mental health and social development of young women.
