Challenges and potencial of the cheese chain in San Vicente del Caguál: a socioeconomic study for competitiveness
Understanding the cheese sector and its production chain is essential for regions where livestock is the pillar of their development and progress. The objective of this research is to analyze the socioeconomic components of the cheese chain and its contribution to competitiveness in the municipality of San Vicente del Caguán from the producers' perspective. Therefore, a methodological route of a non-experimental study with a mixed approach and descriptive-correlational scope was used; a documentary review was carried out to establish the research trends regarding the variables under study through the application of bibliometric techniques in the Scopus and Web of Science databases and a semi-structured survey was applied to 141 producers of this productive chain. The results showed that infrastructure and lack of access to financing limit small producers, affecting their ability to compete in larger markets. The main strategies for overcoming these barriers are technical support, public policies and the integration of producers into value chains. On the other hand, the limited representation of the municipality in scientific research underscores the need to establish alliances to promote the transfer of knowledge and technologies.
