The development of aerobic endurance throug afro-colombian dance in elementary school students

Abstract

The aim of this study was to analyze the impact of Afro-Colombian dance on the development of aerobic endurance in elementary school students. An eight-week intervention program was implemented, with three weekly sessions of 60 minutes focused on traditional Afro-Colombian dances. Physical endurance tests (Course Navette) were applied before and after the intervention. The results revealed a significant improvement in aerobic capacity, with an average increase of 7.8 points between pretest and posttest. This demonstrates that Afro-Colombian dance is not only an effective physical training strategy but also a valuable cultural resource that strengthens identity, social cohesion, and motivation for learning. The findings suggest that integrating this practice into school physical education programs may improve health, academic engagement, and cultural appreciation among students.
