Communication and personality construction in adolescents

Abstract

The objective of this paper was to identify the role played by different communication channels in the formation of adolescents’ personality and to determine how these channels may intensify the emergence of phenomena such as social pressure. To this end, an opinion survey was conducted among youths aged 15 to 16, with the aim of identifying the types of social pressure they have experienced and how these have affected their mental and socio-emotional health. The analysis revealed that both interpersonal and digital communication respond to different stimuli present in the environment, which gradually become integrated into personality formation. These findings highlight the need to strengthen the communication channels through which messages reach young people and, importantly, to ensure that educational institutions provide them with the necessary socio-emotional tools for the proper development of their personality—tools that will foster a sense of belonging and identity.
