Abstract

Workplace bullying is a phenomenon that goes beyond the violation of individual rights and may have significant consequences for organizational functioning and productivity. This article aimed to analyze the impact of workplace bullying on organizational productivity by identifying its effects on job performance, absenteeism, presenteeism, employee retention, and other related variables, while examining the need to complement legal mechanisms with preventive organizational strategies. A documentary review was conducted using a qualitative approach, with a descriptive and interpretative scope and a non-experimental, retrospective design. Scientific, institutional, and legal literature published up to 2021 was selected through purposive criterion-based sampling and analyzed using a documentary matrix  and  thematic  content  analysis. The  results  were  organized  into  four  categories:

conceptualization and legal response; individual and psychosocial consequences; effects on performance and productivity; and prevention and organizational management. The findings showed that workplace bullying may affect productivity through a chain of consequences involving psychosocial deterioration, reduced performance, absenteeism, presenteeism, demotivation, and turnover intention. It is concluded that the legal response, although necessary, is insufficient when implemented in isolation and should therefore be integrated with preventive policies, psychosocial risk management, leadership practices, and effective organizational support mechanisms.
